About Adventures
Adventures was created by Emily aged 13 from South Wilts Grammar School in England.
The mobile app provides activity ideas suited to your location and mood.
How did you come up with the idea for Adventures?
I was inspired to make Adventures by the people around me - I see lots of people playing games on computers or sitting around on social media. I love the outdoors and I know that there are much better things to do outside. I want to share these outdoor opportunities with everyone.
How did you go about developing the solution?
First I had to address the problem - too many young people excessively using social media and entertainment on electronic devices and not getting enough time outside - then think of activities to make going outdoors fun for older kids and teenagers, who are less likely to want to go outside. after creating lots of activity ideas to get young people outdoors, I eventually added extra features like the mood feature, the map feature and the share feature - these make the app easier to use and activities more personalised.
How does Adventures work?
Adventures works by letting the user or using the phone's location find natural areas for the user to visit. It gives a list of fun, quick and easy activities that they could do there to enjoy the space. The app personalises the activities based on how the user is feeling, and teens can also use the share feature to post photos and comment on each other's outdoor activities to inspire others.
Why should your product win its category and why should people vote for you in the People’s Choice Award?
Adventures should win the Global Innovators Award because it solves a big problem that is getting bigger as technology evolves. Adventures helps the mental health and wellbeing of young people by getting them outside and also raises awareness of Global Warming - a huge worldwide issue. You should vote for Adventures in the People's Choice Award because using the app benefits you mentally and physically by getting you outside and therefore letting you appreciate the natural world and escape from the pressure of social media and electronic devices.
