Young people, specifically girls, are motivated to solve problems they care about yet they are outnumbered 4-1 in Computer Science GCSEs. To ensure young people have the skills to shape their future, we teach how technology can have a positive impact and support students to design prototype apps that will change their world for the better.
It’s impacted the way I think about computers and media. I am really keen to do it more often. I think it could be a career and a job to me, which could actually impact my whole future. I'm 100% sure I'm choosing computer science after the experience I had today.
£70 will enable young people to directly engage with an Industry Volunteer
Our students build their app prototypes using processes that are aligned with industry. We connect them to real-world professionals to support their ideas by providing feedback and career insights.
It’s a great opportunity to develop skills for when you’re older - the panel of experts was like an interview panel that you might have to do when you’re older for jobs.
£550 will give a teacher access to three ready-made computing courses
In 2024, our Teacher Tapp survey of 1,323 secondary school teachers highlighted the main challenges they face in delivering the computing curriculum. A shortage of specialist computer science teachers was reported by 58% of respondents, while 41% stated limited curriculum time, and 31% pointed to low teacher confidence. Apps for Good courses support both specialist and non-specialist computing teachers in delivering the computing curriculum with ease.
