What is your product and who is it for?
Our app ScanGo is designed to help consumers save money on their shopping by looking at more cost effective products from other stores.
What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?
We were inspired to create something to assist with the cost of living crisis which is taking its toll on many communities. It is important to us because people could potentially save their money, which can ultimately protect and save lives for various individuals and families throughout the country.
How does your product solve the problem?
At a time where the number of people using foodbanks is massively skyrocketing, the app can show you more cost effective options or products for your scheduled shopping trips, which can then help to save money for its users.
How does it work?
One of the apps main functions gives you the ability to use your camera function to scan the barcode of a product and it will return cheaper or more cost effective options from other stores nearby. Another helpful feature is our shopping basket which can take the products you need to buy and find the best value store to visit. The stores listed will have various ratings assigned to them in terms of ease of access, cost effectiveness and product quality.
What is the biggest challenge you faced when creating your app?
The biggest challenge for us was learning how to code the app, and linking the various screens and functions together. However, we persevered by working together and researching how to code. We were able to learn from this and put our new learning into practice when making our prototype.
Why vote for ScanGo?
Why should your product be the Judge's Favourite and why should people vote for you in the People’s Choice Award?
We believe that our app could genuinely change the world, or in the first instance at least, help people struggling with the current strains of living costs by helping them to shop more effectively and being more mindful of their spending.
