What is your product and who is it for?

Our product is a food delivery service that focuses on reducing food miles by using food from local sources in order to reduce miles that food travels to get to us.

What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?

We researched facts around food miles. We found out that transporting food by air generates roughly 47 times more greenhouse gases than using cargo ships, and that 6% of our total greenhouse gas emissions come from transporting our food. We realised this is the key to helping reduce greenhouse gasses and began brainstorming how we could start making a difference by cutting the travel needed to provide our food.

How does your product solve the problem?

Our product is the start of solving a big problem. It recognises that instead of using transport such as ships and aeroplanes to transport our food from across the world, we can use local sources of fresh ingredients. This not only reduces the carbon footprint in our food delivery, it also helps small business and food providers such as local farmers.

How does it work?

Customers can find food products easily based on what is grown and made fresh locally to them. Loyal customers are recommended alternatives to their favourite foods which can be found from local sources and small businesses.
