About STOREdrobe
STOREdrobe was created by Saffah, aged 11 from Denbigh High School.
The app supports individuals with mobility issues to virtually try on new clothes from the comfort of their home.
What is your product and who is it for?
My product is STOREdrobe, it is an app for people who are shielding and/ or disabled, who would like to try on a range of clothing before making a purchase but who cannot visit shops easily.
What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?
Personally, I know someone that is disabled and they find it hard going out to shop and when shopping online, they find it difficult as they don’t know how the clothing will look on them so I came up with an idea so shopping can be made easier for them.
How does your product solve the problem?
First, the user takes a photograph of themself or gets a friend or family member to do it for them. The photo then goes into the app and the user “maps” where key points on the body are such as arms, legs and head. If you are unsure of what to try you can check out full outfits and styles and see if anything interests you. You can then “virtually” try out what the clothing will look like on you, while adjusting size, colour, etc. Once you have got an idea of what you're looking for, there are links to different shops categorised into low, mid and high price ranges. It means that people who are shielding or disabled who want to visit shops and try on clothes but can’t are able to try on a range of clothes in different styles and see what they look like before making a final decision as to what to buy.
Why should your product win its category and why should people vote for you in the People’s Choice Award?
I say that my product should win because I feel that this app could really help the disabled and vulnerable and I want to make a change to how people shop so that it is easier for everyone regardless of their disability. Everyone deserves the right to feel good about themselves and choose clothing that helps reflect their personality and support their mental wellbeing.
